Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron met in Chisinau on the sidelines of the second Summit of the European Political Community and made a joint statement.

This was reported on the website of the Office of the President on June 1.

The Presidents of Ukraine and France confirmed their agreement, reached during a bilateral meeting in Paris on May 14, 2023, to help protect the population of Ukraine from Russian strikes through France's support for Ukraine's air defense capabilities.

"As agreed at the 12th meeting in the Ramstein format on May 25, 2023, we confirmed our readiness to develop the framework conditions for starting the training of Ukrainian combat aircraft pilots when it is appropriate for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the statement reads.

Taking into account parallel consultations with the United States and other interested countries, Zelenskyy and Macron have instructed the Ministers of Defense of Ukraine and France to work together with the aim of developing an official decision regarding specific volumes and mechanisms for the training of pilots and technical personnel based on the request of the Ukrainian side. This decision will be adopted at the next meeting in the "Ramstein" format with all participating countries in the initiative for the training of fighter aviation pilots.
