As a result of the attack, one person was killed, and 14 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
Ten drone strikes occured in the city. One "Shahed" drone crashed into a high-rise building and exploded inside. Another building was hit multiple times, with one of its sections completely burned out. People were evacuated from apartments engulfed in flames.
This was reported in a story by TSN correspondent Serhiy Osadchuk.
The Russians attacked a high-rise in Odesa at night. A gaping black hole now marks the upper floors. The apartment hit by the drone was completely destroyed, and it’s a miracle that people inside survived.
"There was a loud hum. It exploded so intensely that I didn’t even understand what happened. The main thing is that we’re alive, and everything can be rebuilt. I was very worried about the people on the lower floors; they were affected. I was especially concerned that there were no children there, as they are the most precious thing we have," said a neighbor of the victims.
A woman was cleaning her glass-strewn apartment and recalled that after the explosions, the electricity went out, and the elevators stopped. People ran down the stairs on foot. Rescuers helped evacuate six hundred residents.
In another residential area, several "Shahed" drones struck the roofs of historic buildings. Eyewitnesses described the powerful explosions. One drone strike caused a fire in a building. People were trapped inside the burning entrance. Neighbors rushed to help.
"We found out there were people inside, and the guys tried to break something to get in because there were bars everywhere. Thanks to the rescuers, they managed to set up a ladder. It fell, and a person was left hanging, but at the last moment, they managed to cut the bars. People below supported the ladder," eyewitnesses recounted.
Just as a woman was rescued from a burning window, stones and burning debris began falling from the roof. Rescuers didn’t have time to move away.
"During the firefighting, part of the structure collapsed, injuring three of our firefighters. They are in stable condition and have received medical assistance. In total, 9 people were injured in this building,” says Marina Averina, a spokesperson for the Odesa Regional State Emergency Service.
Psychologists worked with the affected residents at the scene. By morning, after the fires were extinguished, utility workers arrived at the attack sites. Heavy machinery was deployed to clear the rubble. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but it is already clear that the losses are enormous.
