Freezing the war along the frontline is not in the interests of either Ukraine or the European Union. Russia, as the aggressor, would use this to prepare for a new, even more brutal aggression.
This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a press conference in Berlin, as reported by "Ukrinform".
He emphasized that since 2014, Ukraine has had experience with freezing the frontline. However, Shmyhal noted that this would lead to the next phase of aggression within months or years, when the Russians would be far better prepared.
"This aggression will not stop only on Ukrainian territory because they will learn from their mistakes. They now have better experience, better technologies, and are using much smarter approaches. Freezing the frontline will lead to another, much more brutal wave of aggression from Russia. Therefore, freezing the frontline is not in the interests of either Ukraine or the European Union," the head of the government stated.
That is why Ukraine insists on the need for a long-term, just peace on terms set by Ukraine and the EU, Shmyhal said, adding that as the victim of aggression, Ukraine must be part of all negotiations.
