In Ukraine, Russians are destroying the same science institutes which helped develop their weapons

According to the current information from the academy of sciences, over 50 research laboratories and institutes have been destroyed as of today.

But according to military experts, the orcs are much more interested in stealing the technologies and equipment from these facilities than in destroying them, reports TSN.

Oleksandr Oleksandrovych shows the damage caused to his research centre by a missile attack. During the attack, he was on duty, when suddenly he heard two short and one loud explosions. Thankfully, none of the staff died.

“Then, when we came here, this building was on fire, because UAVs had crashed into the roof of the building. Here the missile hit, and here the UAV crashed”, - he says.

The Russians have bombarded research facilities. For sixty years, scientists have been growing diamonds and studying the behaviour of hard solids. Images of the attack on the research centre have been seen across the entire world. The diamonds grown here were used to manufacture cutting tools and to perfect the synthesis technology. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, no military research has been conducted here, unless metal drills can be considered weapons.

From the first days of the invasion, Russian troops have been destroying science facilities across the entirety of Ukraine. Buildings and equipment of two physics institutes in Kharkiv has been destroyed by Russian bombs and missiles.

“They were destroying the infrastructure of research companies, and they knew very well where everything was and what to shoot”, - say the staff.

Yuri Logvinov is the acting director of the institute of radiophysics and electronics. This facility is ruined almost completely. Scientists know the reason for the bombardment: back in the USSR, this institute developed guidance systems for cruise missiles. Today, the work of those Ukrainian scientists is working for the Russians.

“The “Kortik” system enables defence against anti-ship missiles. It’s installed on the “Admiral Kuznetsov”. The land-based version of the system is the Pantsyr-S and the “Kalibr” missiles. The developments of the guidance for these missiles are here, in our institute”, - point out the staff.

The Science Academy of Ukraine is already counting the losses, although they are difficult to assign a monetary value to. Today it is known that fifty facilities have been destroyed. Kharkiv and Kyiv have sustained the most damage. What is happening in the occupied territories of Kherson and the east of Ukraine is unknown. The academy also does not know the number of scientists killed.

They are destroying because they cannot steal – this is the strategy of the Russians with regards to Ukrainian science, says the director of the National Antarctic science centre and ex-soldier Evgen Dykyi. “We have the precedent of the occupied Crimea and of the occupied parts of Donbas. They like our research and education facilities – they like to take them whole and use them for themselves”, - he states.

A new example of this approach is the theft of the equipment on the Chornobyl nuclear powerplant. During their retreat, the Russians stole unique research equipment worth close to ten million dollars. “They don’t want to destroy – they want to steal. And then they claim that science is free from politics. The Russian Academy of Science is guilty of scavenging and theft together with the Russian army. This is scavenging in its purest form”, - say the scientists.

The institutes attacked by the Russians are slowly recovering. In the office of the director of the Superhard Materials institute, a fragment of the UAV which crashed on one of the buildings serves as a reminder of the hard times.

Oleksandr Oleksandrovych, in the meantime, is ready to continue growing diamonds as soon as the windows and roof are repaired.
