"Parody": Russia uses new drones in strikes — details

Russian forces use a new type of cheap drone made from plywood and foam, called "Parody," during their "Shahed" drone attacks on Ukraine. These drones are designed to distract air defense and mobile response units.

Ukrainian military radio technology specialist and blogger Serhiy "Flash" reported this.

"Attention, all units. This is the appearance of the Russian drone "Parody". It carries no payload and is deployed during "Shahed" attacks," he wrote.

According to him, "Parodies" are included in the general statistics, as mobile units in the dark can't immediately distinguish them. Air defense systems also struggle to accurately assess these drones’ size since they resemble "original" drones and have reflective properties that add to the confusion.

"Flash" noted that these drones are cost-effective for Russia, lacking a fuel tank and constructed from plywood and foam. Instead of a fuel tank, they use a fuel pouch. Despite their simplicity, these fake drones accomplish their goal.

"They appear in statistics as "dissapeared from radars" — that’s them. Unlike "Shaheds", they lack long-range capabilities and simply fly into Ukraine, reaching mid-country fields before crashing," he added.

One of these drones was found in Moldova, in the Căușeni district, where emergency teams were dispatched. The drone was shared online by an X user, AIR FOX, serving with the Ukrainian Air Force. He identified it as a decoy Russia uses alongside "Shahed" drones.

"A few weeks ago, I mentioned this new type of drone that showed up in our area. In the photo is a "Parody" drone that 'rested' in Moldova. It's a decoy, cheap and lightweight enough for long trips. That’s the gist," he wrote.
