On June 14, dictator Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine. However, he demands the "complete withdrawal" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. This demand covers the entire territories of these regions, not just the parts occupied by Russia.
In his Telegram channel, Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Office of the President, explains why Vladimir Putin's conditions for "peace" and a ceasefire are unacceptable.
He specifically noted that in the context of the Global Peace Conference in Switzerland, Ukraine seeks sustainable peace through the defeat of Russia, not a temporary fictitious ceasefire. Even if it means stopping hostilities as early as tomorrow.
"Currently, there are no guarantees that would prevent Russia from resuming hostilities at any moment after the conclusion of a fictitious ceasefire. Moreover, that is precisely what Russia will do if it is not punished for mass crimes and the destruction of international law. Russia will undoubtedly gain a strategic advantage. It will behave even more brazenly in global markets. It will certainly establish an active network of provocateur countries that will start to destabilize regions more actively. The Kremlin will also use this time to rearm and prepare for a new phase of aggression or multiple aggressions," Mykhailo Podolyak emphasized.
The Presidential Office's advisor pointed out that a temporary ceasefire would absolutely solidify Russia's occupation of parts of Ukrainian lands and establish the aggressor's right to annex territories by military means in the global order.
"This will be an extremely militarized zone. The "right of the strong" and the "right to a war of conquest" will become key elements of foreign policy," he added.
As a mandatory condition for the "ceasefire," is Ukraine's refusal to join NATO, this will give Russia hope and an opportunity to keep Ukraine in its sphere of influence.
"Real recovery for Ukraine (territories, infrastructure, quality of life for citizens) is only possible with the return of control over its territories. A temporary cessation of hostilities will not stop the suffering of millions of Ukrainians who remain under occupation, will not motivate refugees to return from abroad, and will not attract investors. Once again: millions of citizens, who are currently having their property, homes, and businesses stolen by Russia, will not be able to return. It must be remembered that true peace cannot be achieved at the expense of concessions to the aggressor, which only fuel its appetite. Otherwise, it's just a path to catastrophe," Mykhailo Podolyak concluded.
