Power outages across Ukraine on June 4: "Ukrenergo" reports difficult situation
To overcome the deficit in the energy system, imports and emergency aid from European countries are involved. However, due to the extent of the damage, these measures are insufficient.
Blackout
On Tuesday, June 4, the energy system deficit is somewhat greater than on June 3, resulting in electricity limits being implemented across Ukraine.
This was reported by "Ukrenergo."
The company explained that the causes of the deficit include increased consumption due to the use of air conditioners, cloudiness hindering solar power plant operations, and a decrease in electricity imports from European countries.
"When consumption limits are exceeded, regional power companies apply hourly outage schedules for industrial and residential consumers. Information on when outages may occur in your region can be found in the consumer's account, on the official websites of regional power companies, and their social media pages," the statement said.
The main reason for implementing these restrictions is the aftermath of six missile strikes on Ukrainian power plants. "Ukrenergo" emphasizes that due to significant damage, they cannot produce as much electricity as before these attacks.
"To overcome the deficit in the energy system, imports and emergency assistance from European countries are involved. However, due to the extent of the damage, these measures are not enough to maintain balance in the energy system. Therefore, the Dispatch Center of "Ukrenergo" is forced to apply consumption restrictions for both industrial and residential consumers," the company noted.
Repair of damaged equipment of "Ukrenergo"
According to the energy company, as of June 3, one of the high-voltage transmission lines, connecting the Ukrainian energy system with the continental European grid, has been undergoing scheduled maintenance since June 3.
"This has not affected the overall volume of electricity imports from Europe - the capacity of the line under repair has been redistributed among other international transmission lines. The repair of international transmission lines is a necessary scheduled measure agreed upon by the operators of the two energy systems in advance. Postponing or canceling the line repair could lead to an emergency situation in the energy system. However, following the Russian attack on June 1, certain network restrictions are in place within the country, affecting the available import volumes. “Ukrenergo” repair teams are working to resolve these issues," "Ukrenergo" reported.
