Russia Is Using Equivalent of Nuclear Weapon: Klimkin Explained How Kremlin Blackmails European Countries

Russia, who started a full-scale war against Ukraine, is using its gas as energy equivalent of nuclear weapon against the European countries, Pavlo Klimkin, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2014-2019, said in his interview for OBOZREVATEL.

"Russia continues to use gas blackmail against the Europe. They demand cancellation of sanctions in exchange for resumption of gas supplies. Meanwhile, we see how the population of European countries is concerned with this problem, how the social media users demand to stop supporting Ukraine. What is it – real sentiments in the society or a work by Kremlin botsІ And what Europe is going to do? – It’s both. We observe a significant portion of people, for whom what’s going on around them is much more important than anything else. However, the European Union, on the contrary, is trying to raise the stakes. It is seriously discussing the introduction of a price limit for Russian gas - roughly the same as was agreed on for Russian oil and petroleum products", Klimkin believes.

According to him, it is actually about breaking the dependence on Russia and Russian monopoly on the energy market.

"This is the energy equivalent of nuclear weapon. Therefore, I’m one hundred percent sure that there won’t eb any attempts to step back. Quite the opposite, I clearly feel the EU willingness to raise the stakes, so the response to Russia’s obnoxious behaviour, when the say: “we have oil dripping from pipe” will be raising of stakes. No country in the world will ever consider Russia a reliable supplier. This story of the last 50 years not just coming to an end, it is already over", the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stressed.
