The Russians have started using a new strategy for using drones with drops. Their goal is to reduce the approach distance to the target.
This was reported by brigade officer of the Rubezh National Guard, Volodymyr Cherniak.
What the tactic involves
As explained by the fighter, there is a pilot who stays at a safe distance where an FPV drone can operate. And close to our positions, there is a Russian soldier who has spare batteries and payloads for drones like Mavic or FPV drones. He attaches munitions to them, launches them directly by the pilot, and when the Mavic drops its payload, it doesn't need to return to the base 10 km away.
"This is done to shorten the approach distance to the target. For example, in the 10 km that the drone flies, it could be affected by an EW (electronic warfare) system 10 times," Cherniak explained.
Unfortunately, the enemy is also learning. On our side, a strategy is being developed to counter such tactics.
