Zelenskyy outlines what is needed for the proper end to the war

A war cannot be ended with just a piece of paper and a few signatures. A ceasefire without guarantees can be reignited at any moment, as Putin has done before.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote about this in a recent statement.

Russia wants to sabotage peace more than anyone else

Zelenskyy recounted his visit to President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace and a productive meeting with him and U.S. President Donald Trump.

“We discussed important matters on the battlefield in Ukraine and the global situation – from our front lines to North Korea. I stated that we need a just and strong peace that Russians cannot destroy in a few years, as they did before. This is clear not only for our country and region. We see how Russia is now trying to subjugate Georgia after several wars against it,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

He added that Russia still refuses to let go of Moldova. Now, the Russians are retreating from Syria, but this does not mean they won’t attempt to spread death there again. Russia’s military presence persists even in Africa, aimed solely at destabilization.

“Therefore, when we talk about an effective peace with Russia, we must first speak about effective guarantees of peace. Ukrainians want peace more than anyone else. Russia brought war to our land. And it is Russia that wants to derail the possibility of peace more than anyone else,” Zelenskyy asserted.

To ensure that Ukrainians suffer no further losses, Zelenskyy stressed the need for reliable peace guarantees and vigilance against occupation.

“We all know Putin very well – he is addicted to wars. He began his career with a brutal war against Chechnya and has continuously fueled other conflicts. He can only be stopped by strength – the strength of world leaders who can become leaders of peace. We count on America and the entire world to stop Putin. The only thing he fears is America and global unity,” the Ukrainian leader stated.

Zelenskyy emphasized that peace must be achieved through strength, with clear steps and guarantees for the people and the nation attacked by Russia.

“War must not be endless. Only peace must be permanent and reliable,” Zelenskyy concluded.
