In the early hours of June 15, Russian occupying forces mounted yet another massive, combined strike on Ukraine’s capital, utilizing both ballistic missiles and swarms of attack drones. The assault triggered widespread destruction and major fires across several areas of the city, including the Left Bank. Falling wreckage from a downed enemy drone inflicted severe damage on one of Kyiv’s most recognizable residential complexes in the Dnipro district, famous for its vibrant, multi-colored buildings.

The story was reported by TSN correspondent Nataliia Tkachuk.

Elementary school roof ablaze as facility shows incredible resilience

The impact of the falling UAV debris caused an immediate fire within the complex. A direct hit struck a prestigious private educational institution, the Elementary School Academy. A fierce fire broke out on the roof of the modern three-story building, rapidly engulfing the roofing structures.

State Emergency Service crews rushed to the scene and battled the flames until morning. Firefighters continue to douse the structures, extinguish hidden smoldering pockets, and manually clear destroyed roofing elements to prevent any re-ignition.

The academy serves several hundred children, primarily from families living within the residential complex. In addition to core classes, it hosted dozens of after-school programs, enrichment clubs, and sports activities daily. Following the overnight terror, students did not attend classes on Monday, yet the school administration continues to display remarkable resilience.

The shockwave from the crashing and detonating drone was powerful enough to severely damage a large nine-story residential block directly opposite the epicenter. Virtually every apartment in the building had its windows shattered—frames were destroyed, balconies torn apart, and the modern facade defaced.

A large ground-floor pharmacy also suffered extensive damage. The blast completely blew out its panoramic display windows, reducing interior medicine shelves to a heap of debris. Local residents, who were either walking dogs or taking cover in corridors during the attack, recalled the impact as incredibly loud, accompanied by a blinding flash.

Currently, the courtyard is a hive of activity. Dozens of municipal workers alongside hundreds of local volunteers are working together to clear piles of shattered glass, sweep playgrounds, shovel charred debris, and remove wreckage.

The parking lot near the crash site saw its own tragedy. Intense flames quickly spread across closely parked vehicles, reducing several cars to charred metal skeletons. The blast wave shattered the windshields and side windows of dozens of other nearby vehicles.

According to official data from the National Police, no casualties or injuries were reported at this location. The complex features reliable, purpose-built underground shelters, where most residents stayed disciplined and remained safe throughout the overnight air raid alert.

Fourth strike on the residential complex

This overnight incident marks at least the fourth documented time since the full-scale invasion began that the infrastructure and buildings of this specific residential complex have been damaged by Russian air strikes.

Previously, severe damage and falling Shahed drone wreckage on the roofs and courtyards of the colorful quarter were recorded during massive raids in May 2023, throughout 2025, and at the very beginning of this year, 2026, when explosions tore through the facade and apartments of a 13-story section. Despite the enemy’s persistent attempts to terrorize Kyiv residents, the community has once again proven its readiness to rebuild its space swiftly and carry on, defying the occupiers.
