No-fly zone over Ukraine: Diplomat explains why initiative lacks Western support
The idea of expanded air security over Ukraine has so far failed to gain broad backing among allies.

The SkyShield program, which envisions creating an air safety zone over Ukraine, has not yet received wide support from Western partners.
Former U.S. State Department special representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker said this on Kyiv24.
He noted that while the Polish government and its defense minister supported the proposal, other countries believe protecting the Baltic region should remain the priority.
According to Volker, extended air security could cover areas east of Poland, allowing hostile drones to be shot down before they reach NATO territory. He added that the initiative might gain more support within the alliance if Russia continues its provocations.
Volker recalled that Russia had already carried out hostile actions not only against Ukraine but also directly against NATO member states, citing recent airspace violations in Estonia, Poland and Romania.
