Why Trump’s plan won’t bring peace: Expert outlines what could truly end the war
Trump’s ideas do not guarantee peace — a real strategy can be developed only through joint efforts by Ukraine, Europe and the United States.
Trump, Zelenskyy and Putin
President Donald Trump has again claimed that Ukraine is “blocking” a peace plan and must agree to the terms for ending the war that Washington is promoting. However, an expert believes these statements point not to the strength of Trump’s plan but to its approaching collapse.
Diplomat and politician Roman Bezsmertnyi said this in an interview with OBOZ.UA.
Bezsmertnyi warns against dismissing Trump’s “falling asleep at meetings” or the talk of bartering away Ukrainian land. In his view, these elements are forming an argumentative basis for Trump’s impeachment.
“Simply put, if it doesn’t happen under Trump, it means he will face impeachment — and that moment is drawing closer with each passing day,” Bezsmertnyi said.
The expert points out that President Zelenskyy is a central figure and a key part of the deals between Moscow and Washington. Russia is pushing the narrative of Ukraine’s alleged illegitimacy. But the result will be the opposite: Trump’s ideas bring no peace, only fuel more war, and Christmas will become a decisive turning point.
He stressed that even the U.S. reparations loan comes with strict oversight, including a dedicated clause on “mechanisms to prevent misuse of funds.” It’s another sign that all of Trump’s ideas are unlikely to bear fruit.
On top of that, Europe has started offsetting American capabilities. The weapons procurement program can’t simply be scrapped because it’s tied to contracts and commitments.
The expert added that Europe’s defense industry is picking up speed: “Paris and Berlin are already saying enough with buying American arms — they’re ready to produce their own.”
This unnerves Trump, which is why statements about “leaving NATO” and other “talk” appear — these are information noise rather than actual policy.
Even pressure on elections isn’t critical. Trump fully understands that Zelenskyy’s position is legitimate, and martial law is a clear legal bar to any elections.
“Europe has said it very plainly: as long as the war is ongoing, there will be no elections. The legal analysis is even stricter. So there’s no need to worry. The election process is firmly anchored in Ukraine’s Constitution. All of Trump’s “questions” already have answers,” Bezsmertnyi concluded.
