Russia unilaterally decided to end the period of partial calm that had lasted for several days. On the night of May 12, the enemy carried out one of the largest drone attacks, launching over 200 strike drones across various regions of Ukraine. A massive use of air bombs along the front line was also recorded, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

According to him, Russian forces not only targeted rear cities with kamikaze drones but also intensified air terror directly on the front line.

“Russia itself chose to end the partial calm that had lasted several days. During this night, more than 200 strike drones were launched across Ukraine. Air bombs hit the front line again—over 80, and more than 30 airstrikes were recorded,” Zelenskyy said.

Air defense forces intercepted enemy targets over the Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions, as well as in Kyiv itself.

"Despite air defense efforts, hits and damage were reported. The attack targeted critical infrastructure and civilians, hitting the power grid, apartment buildings, and schools.

The president said that a kindergarten was struck, as well as a civilian locomotive. Tragically, the overnight attack caused fatalities.

“There are reported injuries from these strikes. Unfortunately, there are also fatalities. My condolences go to the families and loved ones,” he said.

Responding to the aggressor’s actions, Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine will not leave these steps unpunished, and Ukrainian forces will act symmetrically.

"We have said that we will respond in kind to all Russian moves. Russia must end this war, and it is Russia that must take the step toward a real, lasting ceasefire," the president stressed.

He also added that as long as the Kremlin does not demonstrate genuine readiness for peace, the international community must increase pressure. Zelenskyy called on partners not to allow any weakening of sanctions, as only joint efforts and stricter measures against Moscow can guarantee security and a just peace.
