Russia’s grim “scorched earth” tactic: Expert names four cities at risk
An energy expert has explained Russia’s new tactic regarding strikes on Ukraine’s energy system.
Russia massively strikes Ukraine’s energy system
Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, has explained Russia’s tactic in striking the energy sector. In a comment to LIGA.net, he said the occupiers were focusing on one region at a time to cut off its electricity supply.
The expert noted that Russia devised a «scorched earth» tactic.
«Russian has devised a new „scorched earth“ tactic. They started focusing on a specific region. At first, they were striking across the country, then they tried to cut the left bank off from the right. As a result, they devised a new tactic — focusing on a region.
They tried this in Odesa, and by the third time they effectively «switched off» Odesa for two weeks, in certain districts. They realized it worked, and took on Kyiv, ” Oleksandr Kharchenko explained.
The expert adds that Russia has concentrated its attacks on three regions: Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih. Oleksandr Kharchenko says that Russian forces are targeting energy facilities in large cities to affect as many people as possible.
«They have focused on three energy regions: Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih. Zaporizhzhia will be very difficult to cut off. But Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro are more feasible. These cities have large populations that could be affected. This is where they are concentrating their efforts, ” the expert stressed.
