Ukraine is preparing a draft law on elections that will address the realities of wartime and the post-war period. Representatives of the Central Election Commission and international partners are jointly working on the document.

This was announced by MP and member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, Fedir Venislavskyi, during a Radio NV broadcast.

Venislavskyi emphasized that after the end of martial law, the country will face unprecedented challenges in the electoral process. The main task is to ensure elections that fully comply with international standards, even if the security situation does not yet meet pre-war conditions. It is also important to guarantee participation for as many Ukrainian citizens with voting rights as possible.

One key issue is the millions of Ukrainians currently abroad. Under the current Electoral Code, organizing elections for such a large number of people solely at diplomatic missions and consular offices is impossible.

«This issue will need to be regulated. Possibly, as seen in practice, at stadiums or concert halls, ” Venislavskyi said.

He added that many aspects are still under discussion, so it is too early to speak about the full readiness of the draft law, although «some conceptual things have already been developed.»

When asked about the timeline for preparing the draft law, the MP said it could be completed «within a few months.» The main goal is to resolve all problematic issues to ensure no doubts arise about the legitimacy of the newly elected Ukrainian authorities.
