Due to Russia's shelling in Kharkiv, the nuclear subcritical facility "Neutron Source" has been blacked out. Emergency diesel generators have been activated.
This information is provided by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.
"The nuclear subcritical facility “Neutron Source”, based on a subcritical assembly controlled by a linear electron accelerator, lost external power supply today, April 4, at 08:30 a.m. during the shelling of the city of Kharkiv by Russian forces," the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology" stated.
The emergency power supply system worked in normal mode. Currently, the facility is operating with the help of diesel generators.
The radiation situation at the site remains within normal limits.
"The Neutron Source" is intended for conducting scientific and applied research in the fields of nuclear physics, radiation materials science, biology, chemistry, as well as for the production of medical radioisotopes. After the Russian invasion in 2022, the territory of the facility has been shelled several times.
