The Russian occupiers managed to capture the city of Avdiivka in Donetsk region thanks to absolute superiority in the air. Ukrainian defense forces could have resisted the bombardments if they had Western F-16 fighter jets in their arsenal.

This opinion was expressed by Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, in a comment to "The Times".
He recalled that the Russians turned Avdiivka into ruins with massive bombings, using, in particular, guided aerial bombs. According to him, it was almost impossible to defend the destroyed city.

"If we had F-16s, they wouldn't have done this. We could have driven them out of our territory," Danilov said. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council noted that Western countries must realize that Russia's aggression will not stop at Ukrainian territory, so they should provide military aid more actively.

"The goals of Russia concern not only our country. If the West is not willing to fight Russia on the territory of the European Union, on the territory of NATO, then it has to address this issue here with us," Danilov stressed.
