Ukraine has been waiting for almost six months for aid from the United States, which Congress has yet to approve. However, the cost of the war has changed during this time, so the previously estimated 61 billion is no longer sufficient to turn the course of the fighting and compel Russia to lose.
This was stated by Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office, Mykhailo Podolyak, in an interview with "24 Kanal".
How much will the war of 2024 cost
In 2024, the Kremlin will allocate 350-400 billion dollars for the war. In order to oppose the aggressor, Ukraine must spend more or less the same amount.
"It may not be 350, but it should be 200 billion. Of course, we are talking not only about the United States, it is also our budget and the budgets of our European partners. But it must be balanced," Mykhailo Podolyak explained.
According to him, each stage of the war has a cost, which constantly increases.
"A year ago - it was one amount, today it is completely different. So 61 billion - it was good until December 2023," - the Advisor to the Head of the President's Office emphasized.
He notes that Russia also has economic problems and deficits, but they are not as large-scale as the world expected after the introduction of sanctions. In addition, Ukraine needs other weapons to counteract the means used by the aggressor country.
Why is the USA interested in supporting Ukraine
Mykhailo Podolyak noted that aid should be timely, because the situation is constantly changing, and the cost of war is increasing.
"61 billion is for Ukraine today. And tomorrow, if everything stops in a frozen form, the United States will have to allocate 200-300 billion annually for a new security system. This is not taking into account the budget of the Pentagon, which already has almost a trillion dollars," the Advisor noted.
In his opinion, when the USA helps Ukraine, it primarily helps itself, because it is an investment in the reputation of the United States.
"Look at what is happening to the reputation of the United States, to the concept of global leadership and international law, which should curb such "interests" of Russia," Podolyak emphasized.
He explains that there is currently a "restructuring of the global security system." And there are countries that are very interested in Russia's victory, which automatically means the destruction of the containment system. Then they can follow Russia's example and do the same in other regions around the world. That is, if the United States loses its status as a "reputable leader," we can expect life in a world without rules.
