To bring Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, U.S. President Donald Trump must use two key tools: first, weakening Russia’s military potential, and second, strengthening Ukraine through increased aid. Without these measures, Putin will have no incentive to rush into peace talks.
Israeli military analyst David Sharp stated this in an exclusive comment to "Kanal 24", emphasizing that Russia still has enough resources to continue the war.
How Trump could force Putin into negotiations
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is betting that by reducing aid to Ukraine and exploiting its mobilization challenges, he can exhaust Ukraine’s resources faster than Russia depletes its own. In such a scenario, he could either negotiate from a stronger position or achieve more significant gains on the battlefield.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump could influence Russia’s economic ability to sustain the war and its overall situation, weakening its military potential while simultaneously strengthening Ukraine by maintaining or even increasing support.
"If this doesn’t happen, Putin will have no reason to hurry with peace talks. Why should he negotiate now, if he believes that in six months, he could achieve better results - capture new territories and wear down his opponent?" Sharp explained.
The expert also points out that unless Russia’s losses reach a critical point preventing further offensives, their significance remains minimal. Moscow has yet to resort to full-scale mobilization, indicating that it still has resources and is content with its current approach.
