At the ash dumps of the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant located in the temporarily occupied Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia region, Russian military actions are creating a new threat to environmental and radiation safety.

This information was reported by the legitimate mayor of Enerhodar, Dmytro Orlov.

According to him, the residents of the city have been regularly observing significant smoke on the streets (especially in the first microdistrict) for a month, caused by the dispersion of dust from the ash dumps of the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant.

"For the safe maintenance of ash dumps, it is necessary to regularly wet the dust with water, as the plant workers used to do before the occupation. Today, we see that due to incompetent “management”, regular shelling, and the lack of proper maintenance of the ash dumps, large clouds of dust are formed, which are carried by the wind throughout the city," the mayor's statement reads.

In fact, ash dumps are storage areas for ash and slag that are produced during the combustion of solid fuels at thermal power plants. These waste materials contain a high concentration of toxic substances. As they dry, they transform into dust that can be carried over significant distances by the wind.
