Russia's offensive on Pokrovsk: is it possible to stop the invaders in this area?

The Russians have great advantages in weapons.

The Russian army has made successful advances in the Pokrovsk direction, largely due to the local landscape - a flat plain. In contrast, other directions are characterized by dense urban areas. However, the invaders' advance can still be stopped.

This was discussed by military expert Dmytro Sniehyrov, Co-Chairman of the public initiative "Prava Sprava," during an interview with "Espreso."

"Donetsk region is made up of urbanized towns: small, large and medium-sized. In the Pokrovsk direction, they are taking advantage of the fact that it is essentially flat terrain, making it difficult for Ukrainian forces to hold their positions, especially considering that there is neither a second nor a third line of defense, contrary to what official sources have claimed," the military expert explained.

Furthermore, the Russians have advantages in weapons, particularly in the air. The enemy enjoys total air superiority, using FABs and GABs - up to 800 guided aerial bombs per week. Holding positions on flat terrain under these conditions is practically impossible, Snehyrov said.

"Additionally, there is the advantage in firepower. This includes both barrel and rocket artillery. According to Syrskyi, the ratio of firepower has been reduced from 1:6 to 1:3 in favor of the occupiers. This means that while we used to respond to 12,000 shells per day with only 2,000, we now respond with about 4,000, But the firepower advantage still remains with the occupiers," the expert noted.

According to him, the armed forces need nearby settlements. Moreover, it is important to note that the occupiers have already redeployed some of their forces from the Donetsk direction to Kursk region.

"This includes units from the so-called 1st Army Corps. The so-called "Pyatnashka" brigade was withdrawn, and the units of the 810th marine brigade were also redeployed. The raid on Kursk is already impacting the situation, as these redeployments are directly aimed at stabilizing the situation in Kursk region," the military expert concluded.
