To ensure Ukraine's long-term security, it's not enough to rely solely on land contingents of peacekeeping forces; the protection of Ukraine's sky and sea is also necessary. This was said by Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tykhyi, during a briefing on Thursday, February 27.
In this context, he recalled today's statement by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybyha about the need to expand discussions on the land peacekeeping contingents to include talks on securing guarantees for the sky and sea.
"We believe that if our partners and allies are ready to discuss sending contingents to ensure peace and long-term security in Ukraine, then the conversation should also cover airspace security, including the closure of Ukrainian skies through patrolling by our allies’ aircraft," the MFA spokesman said.
According to Heorhiy Tykhyi, any long-term security must include the presence of allies in the Black Sea, both in the air and on the sea.
"We are already discussing this in negotiations and believe it is a serious issue that requires discussion," he stressed, noting that important rounds of talks about these security guarantees lie ahead for Ukraine.
