The World Hasn’t Done Anything after the Bucha Massacre – Arestovych

Russia may easily declare annexation of Kherson Region and most part of Zaporizhzhia Region after getting the feeling of impunity.

The world hasn’t done anything to hold Russia accountable after Bucha atrocities, so the invaders have got the feeling of impunity and do not fear potential consequences of their actions, as Oleksiy Arestovych, the Adviser to the Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, said during  his livestream with Mark Feigin, the Russian journalist critical of the government and human rights advocate.

Arestovych assumes that Russia potentially may declare annexation of Kherson Region and most part of Zaporizhzhia Region.

“The Russians have realized that there will bo no consequences, if they annex Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions. They don’t see any indications, at least on part of our European and American allies, that this may result in enhancement of sanction policy or additional weapon supplies for Ukraine”.

The Adviser believes that Putin and his accomplices got really scared after the Russian atrocities in Bucha were discovered and made public.

“That’s the reason why they were so nice during negotiations. That’s the reason they delayed their offensive operation in Donbas. They thought the world would just “tear them apart” after all those atrocities they had committed”. However, the world hasn’t done anything after the Bucha massacre. The only consequence was a limited package of sanctions and emergent discussions about weapon supplies. So the Russians interpreted this message as follows: “We have nothing to fear. We committed large-scale atrocities and tortured people in XXI century, and nothing happened. So why shouldn’t we declare “the unity of the nations?”. That’s the point, when Russia managed to coerce the West into dialogue”, Arestovych said.
