During his appearance on Ukrainian TV, Mark Feigin, a Russian lawyer and oppositional political figure, said that the Russian government may even threaten Kyiv with execution of captive Mariupol garrison troops.
"I guess he may attempt to use 2500 defenders of Mariupol in order to provoke unstable political situation inside Ukraine, where the family members of prisoners and oppositional politicians would press on the Kyiv government to solve this issue. The problem is that the solution si beyond Zelenskyi’s reasonable control. He would gladly exchange all Russian prisoners of war to get those servicemen – both of Azov Regiment and of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – out of the Russian captivity. However, the real issue is that Moscow does not accept the deal”, the Russian lawyer explained.
Feigin believes that Putin would never agree to return the defenders of Mariupol to Ukraine.
“Let’s not mistakenly assume Putin to be a better person than he actually is. Do you really believe that he would simply exchange Ukrainian prisoners of war for Russian prisoners of war, and that’s all, end of the story? This person is a hate-crazed man eater”, the journalist added.
