Two Cities May Become Targets For an Attack: Polish General Shares Alarming forecast of new Russian offensive
Polish general says that a decisive and possibly turning point in the war is coming.
Russia can attack Ukraine from its own territory, and the Belarusian direction will only divert attention, as Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak, who commanded the Polish Army in 2006-2009, said in his interview with BBC News Ukraine.
In his opinion, there is a possibility of a new Russian ground offensive. The Russians are conducting a large mobilization for this purpose and have a reserve of 1.2 million people. Of these, 300,000 mobilized are undergoing appropriate training and exercises. Most of these forces are now concentrated in the area of Voronezh, Kursk, and Bryansk.
"After the Russians lost the battles in the spring and summer, they withdrew and amassed their troops in the area of Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh. Since October, they have been rebuilding their forces there. I believe that Russia could strike Ukraine from this direction (Voronezh, Kursk, Bryansk), moving from there to the south, west of Kharkiv, along the Vorskla River, which flows into the Dnipro. In this scenario, Poltava and Dnipro would be under attack. They may try to combine their forces from this direction with those currently fighting in the east near Bakhmut and Soledar," he said.
Speaking about a repeat offensive on Kyiv, the general said that Putin failed to capture the Ukrainian capital and in this sense he has already lost this war.
"Putin will not be able to control the Ukrainian people. After everything that happened, this people hate Russia. Ukrainians survived Bucha and Irpin. And how many places are there where Russian soldiers killed Ukrainians, but these crimes are not yet known?", Waldemar Skrzypczak said.
The Polish general expressed the opinion that Putin is now forced to switch to the strategy of small steps, which he used in 2014 when he illegally seized Luhansk and Donetsk.
Skrzypczak is convinced that now is the time to maximize the provision of weapons to Ukraine, including long-range missiles, tanks, and aircraft. According to him, a decisive and possibly turning point in the war is coming.
"The attempt to seize the entire country has failed. Next, it is likely to target part of Kharkiv Region, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions. Whether he succeeds or not depends on you and on us, the West. We must do everything we can to ensure that Ukraine can continue to resist Russian aggression and liberate its territories. The key to Ukraine's victory is in the hands of the West," the former commander of the Polish Army added.
