Why Has Germany Abruptly Changed Its Position on Leopard Tanks for Ukraine: Political Analyst on Putin's Possible Influence
According to the expert, Scholz's attitude toward Ukraine has changed dramatically since the New Year.
The probable reason for the abrupt change in the position of Germany, namely its Chancellor Olaf Scholz, on the transfer of Leopard tanks to Ukraine may be the influence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as political analyst Mykola Davydiuk said in a commentary for Channel 24.
"I have a strong feeling that Scholz received the New Year greetings from Putin, who gave him a very tough ultimatum," the analyst said.
According to him, some factors significantly influenced the Chancellor's position.
"Remember what he was like before the New Year: he came out on top in terms of assistance, apologized to Ukrainians, promised to help, did not want Putin to win, and saw Ukraine winning," Davydiuk recalled Scholz's position on supporting Ukraine at the end of 2022.
The expert also emphasized that at the beginning of 2023, Scholz said that he could not give Ukraine tanks, did not agree to authorize their supply to other countries, and additional weapons were out of the question.
"This is a change in both his rhetoric and behavior as a politician," the political scientist noted.
According to Davydiuk, we should also be attentive to the behavior of the newly appointed Defense Minister.
