Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the USA. The leaders discussed how to bring a just peace closer.
Zelenskyy reported this on the evening of September 23.
“The main thing is to maintain unity. Our Peace Formula is designed precisely for this, and we successfully held the first Peace Summit. We are now preparing for the second one. This is a real platform to ensure the full restoration of security for Ukraine and all of Europe,” the President said after meeting with Scholz in New York.
Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to Germany for its support.
“Together, we have saved thousands of lives and can certainly provide more strength and security for all of Europe,” Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, the German Chancellor, even before meeting with Zelenskyy, spoke about providing Ukraine with long-range precision weapons, as reported by DPA.
According to Scholz, the German government has made several decisions regarding military support for Ukraine. Among them is the decision not to lift restrictions on the range of fire.
“This (long-range strikes on Russia) is not compatible with my personal position… We will not do this. And we have good reasons for it,” he added.
The German Chancellor also reiterated that Berlin will not supply Ukraine with long-range precision weapons in the future, regardless of decisions made by NATO partners.
