Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the decision to withdraw the Defense Forces from Vuhledar in Donetsk region as correct, as it allowed for the preservation of military lives.
The Head of State made this statement during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kyiv. In response to a question about why Ukrainian troops left Vuhledar, Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainians cannot stop Russia without the appropriate weapons.
"When they are destroying the positions of our fighters, we need to protect their lives, because they are more important than any infrastructure. These are our people, citizens of Ukraine. Therefore, it is very right that they are withdrawing and can preserve themselves. For the sake of the state, for the sake of their heroic service. These are absolutely correct steps," the President of Ukraine said.
He also once again called on international partners to provide Ukraine with "the means to stop Russia with the appropriate weapons," as well as the necessary permissions and systems.
Zelenskyy informed about delays in weapon supplies from partners."
Ukraine needs to strengthen its positions on the front so that we can increase pressure on Russia for real, fair diplomacy. Therefore, we require a sufficient quantity and quality of weapons, including long-range ones, which, in my opinion, partners are already delaying," the Head of State stated.
