Air defense systems cannot protect all of Ukraine: the Armed Forces told what to do

Air defense systems cannot cover the entire territory of Ukraine, so the alternative is mobile fire groups with small arms or machine guns.

Yuriy Ignat, the Spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, announced this on the telethon "United News".

He explained why Ukraine is now "in such realities" that it cannot cover the entire territory with air defense means.

"Patriots are arriving, but both S-300 and Buk systems are not durable. It should be understood that this equipment is also at the limit of its capabilities. We are gradually moving towards replacing the Soviet-era air defense equipment. And mobile firing groups are what we have managed to do and are succeeding in increasing," said Ignat.

He added that the effectiveness of such groups is increasing every time. For example, recently, even a radio-technical brigade, whose main task is to track the airspace, destroyed five enemy drones at night.

The Spokesman for the Air Force also commented on the effectiveness of C-UAS drone defense systems that the United States plans to transfer to us. According to Ignat, these are short-range systems and they would be effective if there were many of them.

“What are 5-10 complexes? That would cover maybe one important object. I believe that the effectiveness of mobile fire groups armed with small arms, machine guns, and equipped with night vision devices, thermal imaging equipment, optics, projectors, and lasers, will continue to grow," predicts Ignat.
