Belarus Is Getting Ready for the War against Ukraine – the General Staff
Belorussian government has started to recruit men into so-called territorial defence units.
Belorussian government has started to recruit men into so-called territorial defence units in the area near Ukrainian border and extended the ban on entering the territories bordering Kyiv and Chernihiv Regions of Ukraine. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not rule out the possibility that such actions may indicate active preparation for joining the war against Ukraine, as Brigade General Oleksii Hromov, the Deputy Chief of Head Operational Office of the AFU’s General Staff, said his during his briefing.
The process of recruiting local volunteers to join territorial defence units reportedly continues in the Brest Region bordering Ukraine. The candidates are told that if martial law is introduced in the country they will be given weapons and ammunition, and their key task will be to defend and protect communities assigned to the responsibility of their units. Meanwhile, the Belarusian House of Representatives has approved a bill to introduce the death penalty for treason for military servicemen and public officials. These steps may potentially indicate that Lukashenko’s regime is actively preparing for Belarus' involvement in the war against Ukraine," Hromov reported.
