Due to the possible blocking of checkpoints on the border with Poland by local carriers, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine initiated a meeting to resolve the issue of implementing memorandums on the throughput capacity of the mentioned checkpoints.

The Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine announced this on October 31.

The Ministry clarified that the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine has reached out to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland and the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission, requesting meetings with all involved parties to resolve the issue of implementing memorandums on the throughput capacity of Ukrainian-Polish checkpoints.

Ukraine's reaction to the possible suspension of operation of border checkpoints with Poland

"We have received information about the possible blocking of border checkpoints by Polish carriers. Our position is that such strikes and blockades harm everyone, both Ukrainian and Polish carriers," emphasized Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, Serhiy Derkach.

He also declared his readiness for a dialogue where the interests of the carriers of both countries will be equally represented.

The Ministry informed that a meeting with the Directorate of the European Commission is scheduled for October 31. The key goal is to develop joint solutions that will help increase throughput and ensure the stable operation of the border.

"Vulnerable points" of the border with Poland

Derkach also talked about the "vulnerable points" of the border with Poland where the signed memorandums are not being implemented. In October, the implementation of the memorandums is only 50%.

"There are, of course, objective reasons for this, such as repair work. However, in the conditions of a seasonal increase in exports, and maritime blockade, we must ensure stable and rhythmic border operations so that both our and foreign drivers can know exactly when they will cross the border, and the economy can function. Especially considering the need to ensure the operation of “Solidarity Lanes,'" the Deputy Minister concluded.
