Crimea is probably the main focal point of Ukraine's efforts in this war today. Firstly, it is Ukrainian, and we are unlimited in implementing any military potential in the occupied territory.
This was stated by Head of the "Come Back Alive" foundation, Taras Chmut, in an interview with TSN correspondent Natalia Nahorna.
“And it seems that none of the partners have any doubts, objections or any question marks here. Secondly, Crimea is an ideologically symbolic place for Russia. It's part of their history, their regime, their propaganda, and this bubble in which they exist. And every blow is not just an X number of people killed, Y number of equipment destroyed. It's a blow to the Russian empire, its ambitions, its history, its confidence etc,” Taras Chmut says.
According to him, the Kerch Bridge serves an important logistical function.
“And from the perspective of military supply and from the perspective of sustaining the existence of the occupying authorities there. Its destruction is one of Ukraine's strategic tasks at this stage of the war, which would significantly affect the ability to supply and deploy troops, and, as I've already said, the occupying authorities,” Taras Chmut explained.
With the acquisition of long-range weapons, according to him, the Ukrainian army can keep the bridge under fire control.
"Not permanently, but we can control the railway they are trying to build along the Azov Sea: Donetsk region, Zaporizhzhia region, Kherson region - towards Crimea. Plus, a significant portion, if not the majority, of airfields are within the range of fire. The sea is practically limited for the Russians, and it is not under constant fire control. Only the northwest part is. But, thanks to maritime drones, we can deliver very effective pinpoint strikes on maritime vessels. This prevents continuous maritime communication. Therefore, at some point, Crimea may become like the right bank of Kherson, if the Russians don't leave. It will be very difficult for them. Because of logistics. Because planes are shot down and destroyed on airfields. Because, you can't provide a lot of things with planes.
Because you will not provide many things by sea. Because you will not provide muany things with land. This will be a problem. And this is a very good point for us, where we need to exert efforts," Taras Chmut explained.
