Effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense: Ignat explained what 90% means
The spokesperson for the Air Force reminded that a possible effective "fuse" that will keep enemy aviation away from Ukraine is the F-16 fighter jet.
Effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense: Ignat explained what 90% means
The information about the Ukrainian air defense system's 90-100% success rate in shooting down enemy targets only applies to certain cruise missiles and Iranian kamikaze drones.
Colonel Yuriy Ignat, the Air Force Spokesperson, stated this in a comment to UP.
Therefore, according to his words, it is not possible to speak about the 90% effectiveness of the air defense system "in percentage terms".
"Talks about a 90-100% success rate in shooting down enemy targets only apply to certain cruise missiles and Iranian kamikaze drones that our air defense system can actually hit," he said.
Ignat noted that Kyiv is relatively well protected, but the enemy terrorizes the frontline regions every day with S-300 attacks, launches guided aerial bombs from airplanes. The enemy also often uses X-22, X-31, Iskander, Onyx, and other missiles against which Ukrainian air defense today does not have sufficiently effective means of destruction.
"We also do not yet have the means to repel from our borders Russian planes that use guided bombs on a daily basis," Ignat added.
The Spokesperson for the Air Force noted that despite the arrival of more modern air defense systems, the outdated S-300 and "Buk M1" systems remain the backbone of the Ukrainian air defense.
