Fighting for Kurakhove: who currently controls the town in Donetsk region
The town is mostly under the control of Russian troops.
War.
Ukrainian Defense Forces remain within the administrative borders of the city of Kurakhove in Donetsk region. However, the town itself is practically under the control of Russian occupying forces.
Military expert Serhiy Hrabskiy shared this information on the FREEDОМ TV channel.
"The settlement is mostly under the control of Russian forces. If our troops hold any positions, it’s on the western outskirts of the city. Why is this important? Because today, those positions held by our forces in this direction, south of the Kurakhove reservoir, are necessary for us to ensure the withdrawal of our units from the triangle of Dachne – Kostyantynopil – Zelenivka, so that we can safely take up defensive positions in the Kostyantynopil – Andriivka area. Yes, we are retreating because the enemy is pressing hard in that direction," the expert said.
According to him, Kurakhove is fulfilling its role as a defense point, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces now need to focus on preserving their combat potential and retreating to more favorable positions.
"The fighting there continues, and, in fact, this is linked to some discrepancies. That is, if we speak bureaucratically, our units remain within the administrative borders of Kurakhove. But if we talk about the settlement itself, it is practically under the control of Russian troops," Serhiy Hrabskiy said.
