Between New York and Zalizne, there is an area held by Ukrainian military forces, but the enemy is trying to encircle the zone from both sides, creating a threat of encirclement.

This was reported by Director of the Information and Consulting Company Defense Express, Serhiy Zhurets, on the "Espreso" TV channel.

"The Toretsk direction is tough due to several key factors. The enemy is trying to attack from two directions – from New York and from the direction of Toretsk, as well as from the direction of Pivnichne – Zalizne. These settlements are connected by a railway. The enemy is trying to cross the railway near Pivnichne. Next, there are spoil tips that the enemy is trying to capture because they are strategically important for the offensive on Toretsk," Zhurets explained.

According to the military expert, capturing the spoil tips near Zalizne would allow the enemy to intensify offensive actions on Toretsk. The distance to the administrative borders of Toretsk is already minimal, amounting to a few hundred meters. Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups have already entered Toretsk.

"Between New York and Zalizne, there is an area held by Ukrainian military forces, but the enemy is trying to encircle this zone from both sides, creating a threat of encirclement. I hope that the Ukrainian brigades operating in this direction will receive reinforcements. Our command is aware of the complexity of this area," Zhurets noted.

The military expert also adds that informational pressure and the real situation will lead to decisions that will complicate the enemy's advance towards Toretsk.

"But Ukrainian fighters say the situation is difficult. The enemy has an advantage in manpower, equipment and the use of artillery and aviation, which is a common situation on many front lines where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding the defense," Zhurets concluded.
