Architects have already designed a draft project for the reconstruction of Mariupol, which can cost in the range of approximately 12-18 billion euros.
Dutch architect Fulco Treffers, co-founder of Ro3kvit coalition focused on future reconstruction of Ukrainian cities, shared more details in his interview for Ukrinform
According to him, all figures related to the restoration of Mariupol are still quite approximate, because "it is difficult to make estimates also because we do not know what remains of Mariupol."
"The figure I have heard is 12-18 billion euros, but it is important to understand that the best is not always the most expensive. We want to create an optimally functioning city," Treffers said.
According to him, a project for restoration of Mariupol has already been designed. The main team consists of eight or nine Mariupol citizens who lived in the city last year, when they were children or worked there. The team also includes urban planners and environmental specialists.
"We are trying to figure out how the city could revive and what it would take to do so. For example, we know there are at least 10 themes we need to sort through. Specifically, nature and ecology, economy and jobs, education, sports, culture... We need to think about mobility, transport, and the airport," the architect said.
He added that a team to restore Mariupol is still being recruited. In six months, more than 80 professionals have already join the team.
