Kyslytsia Explained What Should Be the Outcome of International Efforts Around ZNPP
The only way to eliminate the nuclear threat is to ensure withdrawal of Russian troops from ZNPP, as Serhii Kyslytsia the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, said according to Ukrinform.
This is the key pre-requisite for restoration of “not just nuclear safety, but also respect of the international law”.
“The key outcome of joint international efforts should be withdrawal of Russian military and civilian personnel from the territory of ZNPP and from the city of Enerhodar. This would definitely restore safe operation of the plant as before the full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine”, he said.
Russian is using ZNPP as the shield for its military personnel and hardware, which was confirmed by the IAEA mission.
Both the Ukrainian delegation and the IAEA mission agree that the plant personnel is working “under extremely challenging conditions due to the presence of armed troops, military vehicles and Rosatom representatives at the facility ”, Kyslytsia added urging Russian to comply with recommendations listed in the report and withdraw its garrison.
Ukraine has also noted the IAEA recommendation regrading creation of security zone around the plant “for prevention of potential nuclear incident resulting from physical damage inflicted by military means” and is willing to engage in consultations in this regard, “if implementation of this initiative may lead to demilitarization and de-occupation of ZNPP”.
“This is yet the second time, when the Russian false-flag operations put Zaporizhzhia NPP just one step away from nuclear disaster”, he summarized.
