Lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine has not yet been discussed with representatives of the Trump administration, as official contacts have not started. At the same time, this issue will not be a priority for the Ukrainian side.
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi during a briefing on January 23.
"Let’s wait for Ukrainian-American contacts. They haven’t started yet. Once they begin, we’ll be able to inform you about the topics being discussed and in what context. Right now, it’s simply too early to talk about this," he said in response to a question about whether the new White House administration is demanding a reduction in the mobilization age for Ukrainians.
At the same time, the Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that this issue will not be a priority for Ukraine, as the country urgently needs enhanced defensive capabilities - greater in number and faster in delivery.
"We have troops and personnel who are under-equipped. The need for weapons outweighs the number of units and brigades. The priority task is to provide additional capabilities and certain types of capabilities," Heorhiy Tykhyi stated.
