Lubinets expressed the biggest complaint against the ICRC — details

The ICRC must be objective: it should state that Ukraine adheres to the necessary doctrines regarding prisoners of war, while Russia does not.

Among the issues Ukraine has with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the official inclusion of the Russian Red Cross, which has been recognized as participating in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. The biggest complaint from the Ombudsman's Office is directed at the ICRC.

This was discussed during a press conference by Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets, as reported by "Ukrinform."

The Ombudsman's Office has no complaints against the National Red Cross Society of Ukraine.

"Regarding the Red Cross, there are three organizations. The National Red Cross — we have absolutely no complaints about them, only gratitude. This is the National Red Cross Society of Ukraine. The second organization is the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which includes all national societies. We have many complaints about this organization," Lubinets stated.

The Human Rights Commissioner explained that the Russian Red Cross, for example, was involved in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.

"We have recognized and confirmed that, in violation of the statutes of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, they turned a blind eye to the fact that the Russian Red Cross stole property from the Ukrainian Red Cross in Crimea and publicly uses it. And we cannot get any response from them," the Ombudsman said.

Lubinets added that the biggest complaint of the Ombudsman's Office is with the ICRC.

"Because when they say the Russians don't allow them, we ask: "Where have you written or recorded this?" If it’s not documented, they agree that the Russians are fulfilling everything... Every month, prisoners of war from the Ukrainian army have the right to correspondence, to receive parcels, to receive medical help. Seriously wounded and seriously ill must be repatriated to Ukraine unconditionally. But none of this is happening," he said.

The Ombudsman expressed the view that their neutrality should not cover up their ineffectiveness, and the ICRC must be objective: stating that Ukraine is following the necessary procedures regarding prisoners, while Russia is not.
