A huge shell pit near the wall, scorched roof and broken ATM machine mangled by the explosion.

That’s how the front-door entrance to the Petro Mohyla Black Sea State University in Mykolaiv now looks like. In the night hours, two Russian missiles, most likely launched from S-300 system, hit the university building. Around 4000 students are studying at Mohyla University, how the locals call it.

The university continued the educational activities even despite the war. The Graduate Admissions Office was working, and the graduates were getting ready to submit their papers.

One of the Russian missiles landed in the university yard leaving a giant several-meter-wide shell pit. A deadly piece of still hit a tree in the ward, so its roots scattered around like a shrapnel. This is the same premises, but from a different view. Before the war, this room was used by the students to prepare before exams. These are the pieces of the same tree, which smashed the windows and even pierced through the walls.

Several buildings across the road from the university were also damaged by the shockwave. A total of 27 residential houses suffered damage during the explosion. In three houses, the shock wave caused the roofs to collapse. Fragments of ruined university walls and pieces of debris smashed the windows and landed right on the floors of residential apartments. In order to somehow cover the gaping walls in the façade, the local government provides film and boards to the local.

According to the provost, the upcoming strike against university was no surprise for Mykolaiv residents. Around a weak ago, the Russian Ministry of Defence released a delusional statement claiming that the university building was used for military purpose. The invaders claimed that Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly deployed ammo and weapon storage at the facility.

In order to refute this statement, the university provost even posted a video filmed inside the buildings, which shows only empty gymnasium, hallways and not a single evidence of any military presence. The video clearly shows that the university continues its educational activities. The Graduate Admissions Office is receiving the papers, while the graduates crowd in the library.

This is 50th educational establishment in Mykolaiv Region shelled by the Russian troops. After September 1st, all local schools and colleges will completely switch to the remote classes.
