Next Year the Egg Price May Rise Above 100 UAH, Unless Poultry Population Is Recovered
The eggs may soon disappear from Ukrainian store shelves, unless the producers manage to rejuvenate the poultry population.
Ukrainian food market has faced significant increase of the eggs. The pieces still fail to stabilize as previously expected and, moreover, as the owner UkrLandFarming Oleh Bakhmatiuk says, in 2023 the eggs may disappear from Ukrainian store shelves altogether.
According to Oleg Bakhmatiuk, the productivity of hens largely depends on their age, and now the Ukrainian producers are mostly using older age hen flocks. As a result of older age, these hens cannot produce the quantity of eggs needed to meet the market demand, so the egg prices continue to skyrocket. If this summer the actual production rate was around 80% of the required quantity, then now this figure reduced to only 50%.
"The flocks are aging. Our hatchery is located in the area once seized by the invaders, so we couldn't deliver parent stock and incubate eggs. Now the hens are dying. We keep older hen in the production cycle in order to avoid even greater shortage of supply on the market. Unless our herd is recovered, we may face even larger disaster next year. There will be no eggs on the shelves as all", the owner of UkrLandFarming agroholding said.
"We have set a goal to restore the production of 50 million eggs a month of the 100 million lost. To meet this goal, we need 3 million adult hens and 420 million UAH of working capital. Now we are actively working on it," he added.
