"Only If Security Architecture Is Clear": Ukraine’s Defence Explained under what Conditions the Ceasefire in the War with Russian May Be Implemented

Ukrainian citizens will never accept the idea of ceasefire at the cost of giving away territories, as Oleksii Reznikov, Ukrainian Minister of Defense, said during the Atlantic Council on July 19th.

"I am convinced that Moscow is using the “ceasefire idea” only to restore its own armed forces and continue moving around our country. The ceasefire can only be used if the security architecture for Ukraine with our partners is clear and we sit at the table with our partners on our side", the Minister said.

He also explained why Ukrainians would never accept the idea of ceasefire at the cost of giving away territories.

" Because we had a so-called ceasefire two years, one year ago in the JFO zone, but it didn’t work. Some partners want to tell us that escalation must be avoided, but I am sure that this will not work, and we will not pay this price to save the face of the Kremlin", Reznikov stressed.

According to Reznikov, the negotiations on unblocking the Ukrainian grain export through the black sea give a chance to lifting the blockade of the North-Western part of the Black Sea and use the costline for grain supplies. Although, the Minister expressed rather skeptical opinion about potential outcome of the negotiations.

"Normally, I am an optimist, but in this particular case I am rather skeptical about the outcome of negotiations, but we will see”, the Defence Minister said.
