Polish Sejm Fails the Voting on Recognizing Russia as the State Sponsor of Terrorism
Five votes were missing for passing the resolution.
Members of the Polish Sejm failed to pass a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. The opposition party blocked the decision because of an amendment by the ruling political force, as Piotr Mueller, the government spokesman, reported according to PAP
Two hundred twenty-five diplomats voted "for" the resolution, zero voted "against", and one abstained. Only five votes were missing for passing the resolution. The opposition did not participate in the voting, so there was no quorum.
"The Russian Federation is directly responsible for the Malaysia Airlines flight (flight MH17) in July 2014, when 298 passengers and crew members were killed, as well as for the crash of the Polish Air Force plane (flight 101) in Smolensk (Russia) in April, which killed 96 people on board, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski, Polish officials, high-ranking Polish military and military commanders of NATO member states, and members of the Polish parliament," the amendment reads.
The opposition did not like the amendment stating that Russia was responsible for Kaczynski's murder. Before the voting, the opposition party asked for a recess in connection with the amendment, which was refused. So, the party did not participate in the voting.
