Power outages in Ukraine: an expert raises concerns about schedules in fall and winter
The heating season will complicate the energy situation.
Blackout in Ukraine
With the onset of the heating season, restrictions on electricity usage and power outages are expected to return, as consumption is projected to increase by nearly a third.
Energy expert Hennadiy Riabtsev shared this information during an interview on "Kyiv24."
According to him, there won't be a way to compensate for the increased electricity consumption through measures such as restoring generation capacity or building new power plants.
"After the start of the heating season, a return to outage schedules is anticipated. When temperatures drop to -5°C and below, outages may occur in the range of three to four stages, meaning up to 12 hours a day. Unfortunately, there are no grounds to say that the situation could improve, as a significant shortage of electricity, up to four to five gigawatts, is projected," Riabtsev reported.
