Quality of Water from Dnipro River in Kherson Has Deteriorated Creating Emergent Risk of Contagious Disease Outbreaks
During the last few days, the microbiological quality of water supplied to Kherson Region from Dnipro River has deteriorated significantly.
The experts examined eight samples of river water taken at the local public beaches, as Yurii Romaskevych, the Chief Executive Officer of Kherson Regional Disease Control and Prevention Center at the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine, reported.
"The population of intestinal bacteria and enterococci in the river water has increased by few hundred times above standard limits, which indicates difficult epidemiological situation in Kherson and may contribute to the emergent risk of acute gastrointestinal infection outbreaks, including, but not limited to cholera, among the city population”, he explained.
Romaskevych strongly advised Kherson residents to refrain from swimming in Dnipro River in the short run.
