Russia widely uses Chinese modems in drones, «Flash» warns of danger

Chinese mesh modems have been found in Russian drones used to attack Ukraine. This complicates countermeasures with electronic warfare and allows Russian forces to adapt to changes on the battlefield.

Chinese mesh modems have been found in Russian strike drones used to attack Ukraine. These are the same components previously identified in Shahed, Gerbera, Molniya, and Kub drones.

The information was reported by Ukrainian Defense Ministry Adviser Serhii Beskrestnov, known as «Flash.»

According to the expert, the new case involves the V2U UAV, which is equipped with Chinese-made hardware that enables signal transmission and coordination between drones.

Experts say the modems function in the 1,600–1,800 MHz range, though they can be rapidly adjusted to other frequencies. This complicates electronic warfare efforts and enables Russian troops to respond to changes on the battlefield.

Intelligence reports indicate that Russia previously held talks with Chinese manufacturers over contracts to supply hundreds of thousands of such devices. These components are now increasingly being detected in various types of Russian drones.
