Russian army started attacking the Ukrainian Armed Forced during evacuation of civilians in Mariupol

Russian troops didn’t let the needed number of evacuation transport  enter the city during the work of humanitarian corridor yesterday. Only 80 civilians were taken out of Mariupol. 

Moreover, Russian troops started attack against Ukrainian Armed Forces during the process of gathering of Mariupol inhabitants. The majority of civilians decided to go back to the shelters. 

The mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boychenko informed during briefing. 

"It was announced that there will be plenty of buses for evacuation yesterday. But only 7 managed to enter the city. Invaders had clearly determined roots of evacuation, for us to be able to pick up people on the way. But that was out of their plans. It was very hard for our people to get to the appointed places of gathering. This is the Left bank. But people had come. At that moment invaders started shooting from the heavy weapons. Russian tanks started breaking through our defenders’ positions. It such situation people made the decision whether to leave or to stay by themselves. Many of civilians stayed. Because they thought it would be dangerous to go. These 4 buses were driving during 24 hours, made a stop in Berdyansk and have already come to Zaporizhzhia”, - the mayor told. 

The evacuation was also planned for today at 2 p.m. But at 3 p.m. there were more than 200 people on the meeting spot, but the buses still did not come.            

There are approximately 100 thousands of civilians in Mariupol now, according to Boychenko’s data.
