The Russian offensive in the Sumy region is accompanied by an information campaign from Russian propagandists aimed at diverting attention from the occupiers' true goal — an attempt to break through in the Donetsk region.

This opinion was expressed by military analyst Vasyl Pekhnyo during a broadcast on the «Espreso» TV channel.

«In reality, the Sumy region is not the location of the enemy’s main strike. Donbas, the Donetsk region, and reaching the borders of the Donetsk region — that is the number one goal. Even in all the General Staff reports, the largest number of combat engagements, probably around 80 percent, are concentrated there. Sumy serves as a secondary, distracting, and informational aspect,» he said.

The expert recalls that this is not the first time the Russians have used the tactic of informational noise, citing examples such as the spread of fakes about intentions to break through in the Kherson direction or to reuse the «Oreshnik» missile.

«I do not rule out that, failing to achieve any significant success, the Russians might shift their focus, for example, to the Zaporizhzhia direction. And it is quite possible that in the coming weeks, there will be some unrest in Zaporizhzhia, which the Russians will support informationally, creating a clamor: let’s shout about capturing the Zaporizhzhia region or the city of Zaporizhzhia,» Vasyl Pekhnyo added.
