Smiling People and Ukrainian Flags: First TSN’s Broadcast from Liberated Kherson (Video)
TSN journalists report on how the city recovers after liberation from Russian invaders.
Kherson, recently liberated from the Russian invaders by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is slowly recovering and returning to normal life. Ukrainian flags flutter over the city, and people are smiling and enjoying their long-awaited freedom.
TSN correspondent Anton Kotsukon broadcasts live from the central square of de-occupied Kherson and reports about the current situation in the city and the mood of the townspeople.
"Everything in Kherson is covered with Ukrainian flags. The atmosphere of absolute unity reigns in the whole city," the journalist says.
According to him, people hid Ukrainian flags wherever they could – buried them in the ground, hid them in the yards outdoors or at home. Kherson residents also hid photographs of their family members fighting in the ranks of the AFU.
Despite the lack of water supply, power supply and other utilities, people say that even the air now feel much better in Kherson. The locals are willing to endure temporary inconveniences, because the most important thing is that Kherson has been liberated from the Russian invasion.
According to Yaroslav Yanushevych, the Head of Regional Military Administration, the city is now undergoing stabilization measures. The enemy has rigged with explosives all critical infrastructure facilities and many other sites. The municipal authorities will be ready to proceed with repair works only after initial landmine contamination clearance period, when municipal workers are allowed to return into their workplaces.
Mobile operators promise to resume operations in the next few days.
"Within the next two days, special access points will be deployed in the city where people will be able to connect to free networks," the Head of the Regional Administration says.
Also, according to Yanushevych, Kherson residents who want to evacuate from the city will be provided with all necessary assistance, and the local authorities are already working to develop the evacuation algorithm together with the Ministry of Reintegration.
